Thank you so much for posting this one. Is AvarekaLu same as Lima beans?
@Manjula,
ummm.... No Manjula, not really. Lima beans is different. Avarekaalu will be available under the name 'Surti Papdi Lilva' in Indian stores. Check it out in the frozen section!!
wow i long for this here i don't find even in frozen section. At times we can find fresh avarekai very rarely!love this
i have seen lilva beans in frozen section ramya and use it to make kachories. u have got 2 differnt recipes. back in india my mother hardly used to cook using avarekai.
i usually fry rava for a minute and then add water. i see that u bring water to boil n then add rava. guess it wont make much difference:) thanks for the recipe. will bookmark this famous b'lore recipe:)

I git some frozen avarekalu,will make it my way and post sometime later.
Looks delicious.
Ohh I love this uppittu. I made it couple of times in Bangalore. My friend gave few recipes with it, but I didn't know what it is called in English so could not pick up from Indian store. I am sure I have seen it in Indian store here.
Manjula, avrekalu is smaller than lima beans. In Bangalore, we used to get some peas kind of beans which needs to be peeled and inside you can find these avrekalu. Many times these avrekalu are again peeled to remove the skin and then used. The outmost covering is harder than those of peas.
good recipe...thanks for sharing..cool pic

@Shreedharcva,
Thanx a lot!! Glad you liked my blog. Hope you enjoyed the uppittu. Keep visiting for more recipes!!
Hi,
Uppittu looks great. One small suggestion, if this upma is prepared with Upma rava or Bansi rava, it comes out much more tastier.
Bahala Chennagitthu
